The twinnies turn one soon, I cant believe where the last year has gone. I am been especially lucky to be able to spend everyday with them and it will continue until June when I will eventually return to work :(.

Yesterday we spent some time taking cake smash photos- I love how they turned out.

Surviving with Spewy Twins- AKA Life with Happy Chuckers

My babies have mild reflux- this means they vomit a lot but have no discomfort or pain in doing so. The medical professionals say it is 'normal' and would ease at 3 months (no) or 5 months (NO) and should stop when they start to crawl or when they start to walk (if it hasn't stopped by then I am sure I will be a loopy mamma with vomit all over the house). I also suffered (well my mother) from mild reflux which didn't stop until I began to walk.

So this normal condition is entirely frustrating for a clean freak for me. Here are some tips and tricks I use to make life a little bit easier.

Plastic Backed Burp Cloths

I think these are meant for putting over your shoulder when burping babies upright- well I use them whenever they are laying in their cots. They are the perfect size, can be replaced really easily without waking the babies, are cheap as chips (I buy them from Big W) and wash and dry very quickly.

573 Bibs and Washers

Or more or less depending on your needs. I am constantly adding more bibs to my supply in search of the ultimate bib. I will do an entirely separate post on the pros and cons of each style of bib (lol).

Washers, wash cloths or flannels- whatever you want to call them- you may need a few. I prefer any colour but white as formula can stain yellow which is not attractive. I buy mine from Best and Less, they are under $2 each are a just the right thickness. Don't bother with Egyptian cotton washers as they are just too thick and won't fold to catch spew (like that image in your head).

Egyptian Cotton Towels

  I fold them in half and place them under the babies heads when they are rolling around on the ground. They are very thick so protect quilts, rugs and carpet.

Napisan Babycare

This is great for removing formula stains, soak offending article overnight and wash an normal.

Podee Bottles

Well I discovered these bottles a few months back and spent a small fortune on them only to change to a thickened formula and dismiss them as not being able to work with all the tubes and small holes. This week I decided to try them out and I am very glad I did. This is really the most amazing product for a mamma of twins. The girls can now feed at the same time and this is the best bit- they can feed themselves and at their own pace. It only took them a few seconds to get used to the new bottles and although I still watch over it does make my life easier. I don't use them with every feed as I still like the cuddle action that goes along with normal bottle feeding. Don't be a mug like me and buy them from any baby shop in Australia, order them online from ebay- they will ship to you direct from the States and at about 50% cheaper.

5 Months

Wow the twins turn 5 months old tomorrow- I can't believe we have survived this far. I cheated and took their 5 month pics today.

Hanging Out

The twins don't actually spend that much time next to each other and they don't particularly care for each other as yet- hopefully that will change as they get older.

The Nursery- Part 2

The other major purchase we needed to make for the nursery was a comfy chair. I am not a fan of the typical glider chairs used and wanted a chair I could use elsewhere in the house after we had finished with it in the nursery. We found the perfect chair at Early Settler- super comfy, good height, stylin and the right price- around $600 from memory. The only issue was the lies they told us- a 2 week delivery turned into 6 weeks which really pissed me off- the amount of times I called to be told next week started to send me batty.

I also wanted a small side table- this was impossible to find so I went with a stool- the good thing is the top of the stool lifts off so I can use it to store stuffed toys later on.

The most fun was had with the accessories and final touches. The trees looked a little dull all by themselves so I went on the hunt for other decals and ended up with many forest critters. Here's hoping I won't confuse the girls as they grow older as half the animals on display don't even reside down under.

I also got some owl curtain tiebacks, birdy rug, knitted animals, etsy artwork, a cute light fixture and some cushions.

Dear Remy

My princess is growing up so fast. This week whilst lying in your cot in the lounge room you managed to roll from your right to left side in about 1 second flat. You are getting the hang of rolling and are desperately trying to roll onto your belly. You have smiled a few times now- mainly at nan when she is telling you a funny story. You could listen to her stories all day long. You still manage to spew a lot but it doesn't concern you in the slightest. You love soaking in your baby bath, kicking your feet around and sliding around. Your favourite thing is still your dummy.

Dear Darby

My precious girl you are growing up so fast. You now manage to wriggle your way to the bottom of your rocker and hang your leg out the side- just chilling. This week you laughed for the first time and at me your mum making silly hooting noises. You still manage to spew a lot but are totally cool about it and don't fuss or bother. You love having a bath which I try to give you everyday- you relax in the little hammock while I pour warm water over your body. You don't even cry anymore when I take you out. Your favourite thing is still your dummy.

Immunisations

Yesterday  my baby girls had their two month immunisations. I was a little freaked out at how they would handle it but apart from a little screaming when the needles went in and being a little sooky afterwards they have seemed to handle it okay.

Given that I don't get our of my tracksuit much these days I thought I may as well take some pics with the girls while I was looking half presentable.
